Ibn Khaldoun, Erfinder der Geschichte. Er gilt als der berümteste arabische Historiker im Mittelalter.
Ibn Chaldun (arabisch: ابن خلدون Ibn Chaldūn, mit vollem Namen ولي الدين عبد الرحمن ابن محمد بن محمد بن أبي بكر محمد بن الحسن Walī ad-Dīn ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān ibn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn Abī Bakr Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan; * 27. Mai 1332 in Tunis; † 17. März 1406 in Kairo) war ein islamischer Historiker und Politiker. Zu Beginn seines monumentalen Werkes al-Muqaddima nennt er sich kurz: Abd ar-Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn Chaldun al-Hadrami عبد الرحمن بن محمد بن خلدون الحضرمي / ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān b. Muḥammad b.Ḫaldūn al-Ḥaḍramī. Nach islamischem Kalender fallen die Geburts- und Sterbedaten auf den 1. Ramadān 732 bzw. 25. Ramadān 808. Ibn Chalduns Betrachtungsweise von gesellschaftlichen und sozialen Konflikten gilt auch als Vorläufer einer soziologischen Denkweise.
